Historical ciphers are increasingly solved with a combination of archival research, linguistic expertise, cryptanalysis, computation, and Artificial Intelligence. A convincing plaintext alone, however, is not yet a scholarly result. This workspace provides a structured route for recording the evidence behind a solution—even when the contribution does not constitute a full research paper.
Record the source, transcription, plaintext, key, method, tools, and remaining uncertainties before important details are lost.
Give the Program Committee enough evidence to reproduce or independently check the claimed decipherment.
Identify every human solver accurately and make accepted solutions visible to the historical-cryptology community.
How it works
Your real name and affiliation are attached to the submission from your account. Your email address must be verified before you can submit.
Create a cipher-solution project and complete each requested field. Supply precise archival references, manuscript images, ciphertext transcription, proposed plaintext, alignment, reconstructed key, a reproducible method, all AI systems and other tools used, references, and unresolved or ambiguous elements.
Place the machine-readable evidence and supporting files in an approved public or permanent repository. The repository should contain enough material for another researcher to inspect and independently verify the solution.
The checklist shows whether every required field is present and correctly formatted. A green result means only that the requested material has been supplied; it is not a scholarly assessment or acceptance decision.
Review the author declaration, publication permission, and consent to the internal AI-assisted pre-review. Submission locks that version. Before the deadline, you may reopen it for corrections, but you must confirm the declaration again when resubmitting.
The organisers' self-hosted models perform an internal, field-by-field pre-review and prepare possible questions for the reviewers. The report is visible only to administrators. Human reviewers and the Program Committee assess the evidence and make every editorial decision.
What happens after submission?
The Program Committee will examine the submitted evidence, the internal pre-review, and the human reviewers' assessments. It may request clarification or corrections, verify cited material, or decide that a solution is not yet sufficiently documented. A complete form or a positive automated check does not guarantee inclusion.
Solutions selected by the Program Committee will be credited to their human solvers in a cumulative overview article prepared by the HistoCrypt Program Committee. They are therefore documented together in a scholarly context rather than published as separate proceedings papers. The article may quote, summarise, edit, compare, and contextualise the accepted solutions, with appropriate attribution and subject to the publication permission confirmed at submission.
Supporting material remains available through the permanent repository supplied by the solvers. Where appropriate, selected contributions may also be invited for presentation or a poster at HistoCrypt 2027.
Return to the workspace, create a new solution, and save as often as needed. You may also download the project as JSON for offline editing and import valid parts again later.

Enter one hostname per line, without paths. A URL is accepted when its hostname matches an entry or one of its subdomains. For example, allowing zenodo.org also permits sandbox.zenodo.org.

Super administration
All submitted solutions must have a decision before delivery can begin.
Administration
Monitor the private, step-by-step semantic pre-review of submitted cipher solutions.
Administration
Connect the semantic review worker to the organisers' self-hosted, OpenAI-compatible model endpoint.
Super administration
Edit every instruction sent to the semantic pre-review agent. Saved prompts apply to newly started or rerun review jobs.
Super administration
Configure and test the SMTP server used for every portal email.
Super administration
Edit the subject and body used for every type of email sent by the portal.
Administration
Manage verification, administrator access, and user accounts.
Administrators can verify, suspend, reactivate, and delete participant accounts. Suspending an account immediately signs it out. Only super administrators can manage ordinary administrator accounts or change conference configuration. Super administrator accounts cannot be suspended, demoted, or deleted. Deleting an account also permanently deletes all of its solution projects.
